Chief Mechanical Engineering Building, Redfern

The Chief Mechanical Engineer’s Building represents Sydney’s railway past and future, as TAHE progresses its strategic vision to transform the site into a new business precinct.

Built in 1887, the state-heritage listed building was the headquarters of the Eveleigh Railway Yards, which employed over 10,000 people to build, maintain and operate locomotives.

Adaptive re-use of this significant heritage asset will ensure that its significant rail-related history is maintained and continued to be enjoyed by future generations.

The building is one of several State significant heritage listed assets within the Redfern North Eveleigh Precinct which will be celebrated as part of the revitalisation of the Paint Shop precinct.
