Lee St Substation

As part of the D&C contract CCG Architects were engaged by UGL to complete the

architectural design for a fully operational substation for Sydney Trains.

All works were successfully completed in accordance with Transport for NSW, ASA,

Australian Standards and the National Construction Code of Australia.

The completed substation presents a precast concrete facade with painted elements to emphasise its unique ventilation system of integrated ribbed profiling along the facade.

This presented an aesthetic architectural response towards the high activity and exposure between Central and Chippendale.

The substation can be observed from multiple areas such as Lee Street and from the train corridors and will give a different architectural view with its ribbed profiling and architectural elements with endless ‘motion’.
